Proceeding contribution from Lord Stoddart of Swindon (Independent Labour) in the House of Lords on Monday, 24 April 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Health Bill.

Health Bill

Its sales go up because they sell and manufacture in China, for example, and its share prices go up. This legislation will not damage the tobacco companies—we should make no mistake about that. The noble Lord referred to smoking generally and said little about passive smoking. The Bill will take rights away from people. That is what concerns me. The noble Lord instanced his own experience. He smoked cigarettes and he is still here at 80.
