Proceeding contribution from Baroness Trumpington (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Monday, 24 April 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Health Bill.

Health Bill

Goody, goody! The Committee will forgive me for insisting on speaking, but I wanted to follow the noble Lord the doctor. First, I should say that I am exactly the same age as him, so he has got nothing to swank about. Secondly, as everyone seems to have a competitive outlook, I should say that my mother never took an alcoholic drink in her entire life, and she died of sclerosis of the liver. What do you think about that one? I should like to ask the doctor, through the Deputy Chairman, whether he is not surprised that the babies of regular smokers—who are constantly in the line of battle, if I may put it that way—ever reach adulthood. It is as simple as that.
