Proceeding contribution from Baroness Walmsley (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 2 May 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Bill [HL].

Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Bill [HL]

I note that Amendments Nos. 5 and 6 ensure that all IBB members have pension contributions. That is absolutely right, but I would not expect people to serve on the IBB for 40 years and go away with a gold clock at the end. It is important that they are up to speed and up to date with current practice in their various areas of expertise. It is not only good for the IBB that they should leave, but good for the sector to which, one hopes, they will go back after a few years’ service. Serving on the IBB will provide useful experience for them in their areas of expertise.
