moved Amendment No. 102:"Page 57, line 12, at end insert—" ““(2A) Where a request is made by a party under this section in relation to a description which exceeds six words in length, it shall be permitted by the Commission if it includes a relevant place name of a— (a)   ward, (b)   constituency, or (c)   local authority area. (2AA) A relevant place name includes a reference to a ward, constituency or local authority area in which the proposed candidate intends to stand.”” The noble Baroness said: My Lords, this new amendment is tabled due to concerns that we have had since Committee. We understand that, as the Bill stands, the number of descriptions on the ballot paper has been reduced. That poses a potential problem for political parties that wish to use their local area name within a name included on the ballot paper. For example, the Conservatives in Truro, Cornwall, would be unable to run as Truro Conservatives. The inclusion of a local name on the ballot paper seems sensible and parties should be allowed to register as many separate branch names there as they have registered for all other representative purposes.
