Proceeding contribution from Baroness Royall of Blaisdon (Labour) in the House of Lords on Monday, 22 May 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Health Bill.

Health Bill

moved Amendment No. 66:"Page 16, line 35, leave out ““a person”” and insert ““an individual””" The noble Baroness said: While Amendments Nos. 66, 67, 69 and 70 look lengthy, they are technical ones to ensure that ““relevant persons”” are accurately defined. Clause 18 provides for responsible bodies to identify, consider and act where necessary on matters about the management and use of controlled drugs by ““relevant persons””. The current definition would capture the vast majority of individuals working in the health and social care sector but would exclude a small number of private doctors who do not work in independent hospitals or carry out work for the NHS. The current definition also would not cover care home staff. The amendments therefore ensure that the definition of the ““relevant person”” captures all those working with controlled drugs in the health and social care sector. I beg to move. On Question, amendment agreed to. On Question, Whether Clause 17, as amended, stand part of the Bill?
