Proceeding contribution from Lord McCrea of Magherafelt and Cookstown (Democratic Unionist Party) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 17 May 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill.
Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill
Can the Minister clarify subsection (1) of new clause 1, which states ““A public authority must””—there is an imperative—"““in exercising its functions, act in the way it considers best calculated to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development””." There is a must and then there is a broad brush. They can do little, they can do much. It is as they believe best. Is that what this is about?
