Proceeding contribution from Alan Johnson (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 24 May 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Education and Inspections Bill.
Education and Inspections Bill
No, I will not, as time is limited. We have confirmed that no school will be forced to become a trust school, but that every school will have that option, after consulting parents and stakeholders. And we have set out safeguards to ensure that trusts are not involved in activities that may be considered inappropriate. We have also put a requirement on trusts not only to help drive up standards but to contribute to community cohesion.
