Proceeding contribution from Lord Hutton of Furness (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 25 May 2006. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Pensions Reform.
Pensions Reform
Unfortunately, on a day of consensus, I have to agree with my hon. Friend. At least there is a consensus on this side of the House, which is always pleasant. We have a responsibility—as the hon. Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr. Hammond) said—to set out how we will fund such reforms over the long term. That was completely absent during the last election and we have now proposed a sensible package of proposals that will allow us to sustain our reforms for the long term.
