Proceeding contribution from Lord Bassam of Brighton (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 19 July 2006. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill.
Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill
moved AmendmentNo. 114A: Page 20, line 29, leave out subsections (2) and (3) and insert- ““(2) The repeals in the Schedule do not affect the application of the 2001 Act in relation to the making of an order under section 1 of that Act giving effect (with or without variations) to proposals in a document laid before Parliament under section 6(1) of that Act before the day on which this Act comes into force.”” The noble Lord said: Amendments Nos. 114A to 114D make minor and technical changes, at the core of which is Amendment No. 114C, which ensures that subordinate provision orders can still be made under the 2001 Act to amend existing regulatory reform orders, despite the Bill’s repeal of the 2001 Act. The other amendments are minor, related amendments to clarify the drafting. In view of what we have just heard from the noble Viscount, I should have thought that they are commendably sensible and practical amendments. I beg to move. On Question, amendment agreed to.
