Proceeding contribution from Peter Bone (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 1 November 2006. It occurred during Debate on Legislative Process.

Legislative Process

If the hon. Gentleman will bear with me, I will come on to that point later in my speech. Members of Parliament have many roles to fulfil, but the most important is holding the Executive to account. This democratic right has been denied to us during the summer recess. That is extremely damaging for democracy. It is damaging that so much power is given to the Executive, who escape scrutiny.
