Legal Services Bill [HL]
This has been illustrated all over the world, perhaps critically in South Africa in the days of apartheid. Some of the lawyers who made their names at that time are now luminaries of the legal profession and the judiciary in this country. All over the world the importance of the integrity and independence of the legal profession is paramount and to the forefront in the preservation of liberty and the basis of constitutional government. I hope that we can progress further. There are debates to follow on similar topics. I wait to hear what the Minister says. For the moment, I beg leave to withdraw the amendment.
