Proceeding contribution from Baroness Harman (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 8 March 2007. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Coroners’ System and Death Certification.
Coroners’ System and Death Certification
They would not have that authority. I will come on to resources in a moment, but the coroner concerned would to able to see the coroner in the home town of the family and if the family wanted the inquest to be near where they live, or if it made more sense for the inquest to be near where the person was stationed, the legislative changes envisaged will mean that the inquest can be moved. The coroner cannot do that at the moment. I will not be able to answer satisfactorily all the points that my hon. Friend the Member for North Durham and other hon. Members made about resources, but I will try to explain what I am doing now and what the Bill will change.
