Proceeding contribution from Earl Attlee (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 6 December 2007. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Local Transport Bill [HL] Bill.
Local Transport Bill [HL] Bill
The noble Lord, Lord Borrie, should not be surprised that I moved this amendment, because we will explore all aspects of the Bill that we need to look at. The Minister thanked us for a short debate—but of course it is not over yet. I wonder what would happen if the Secretary of State was unwilling to take action, perhaps for short-term political considerations. He may have some form of conflict of interest and may need a bit of persuasion from the senior traffic commissioner; he may be too busy running another department. However, I thank the Minister for her response and, subject to the usual caveats, I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. [Amendment No. 5C not moved.] [Amendment No. 6 had been withdrawn from the Marshalled List.] Clause 4 agreed to. Clauses 5 to 7 agreed to. Schedule 1 agreed to. Clause 8 [ Nature of duty to develop transport policies]:
