Proceeding contribution from Lord Davies of Oldham (Labour) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 10 January 2008. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Bill [HL].
Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Bill [HL]
I would not want to be accused of excessive naivety about how financial institutions work. We should recall the purpose of the transfer of funds. If the bank reaches a judgment, the account is dormant; the bank is not the beneficiary—the funds go to the reclaim fund. I am not being excessively naive in this case.
