European Union (Amendment) Bill

I would rather not give way, because I am inevitably grinding slowly to a conclusion. It is true that I do not want to build a European superstate. In that superstate, we would be like Mrs. Rochester in ““Jane Eyre””—the mad person in the attic—and why would we be in that situation? Because the people do not like it; because the people do not want it; because the people feel that they are not being consulted; and because the people feel that it is being imposed on them. If we pass the treaty without a referendum, we will encourage all those feelings.
