I do not know whether it has been put on the Secretary of State's desk yet, but is he aware of the report by Dieter Helm, professor of energy policy at New college, Oxford? He says:"““The Government's nuclear energy policy is fundamentally flawed because it relies on the 'fiction' that a new generation of reactors can be built without state support””." He goes on to say that the way out is to have auctions for long-term reductions in carbon emissions over 20 to 30 years. I ask the Secretary of State to have a hard look at that idea, because I think that there is something in it.
