Proceeding contribution from Mike O'Brien (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 22 April 2008. It occurred during Debate on bill on Pensions Bill.

Pensions Bill

The hon. Gentleman is right that there are time scales, and it looks as though they can delivered on, all other things being equal, by 2012. There are also estimates about various contracts. Again, for the reasons that he gave, I do not want to go into that. The hon. Member for Eastbourne is wrong when it comes to the figure of £500 million, which came from the Pensions Commission years ago. That was just an estimate that it made. We have not, at this stage, put forward another, separate figure, but the figure cited is not the figure that we are aware of; however, I cannot go any further than that at this stage, as regards broad figures.
