Proceeding contribution from Pete Wishart (Scottish National Party) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 1 May 2008. It occurred during Debate on Child Poverty in Scotland.

Child Poverty in Scotland

I congratulate the right hon. Gentleman on the tenacious way in which he has gone about dealing with this issue. I do not want to accuse him of scaremongering and giving the wrong impression. We all accept that the money has not been lost, but passed on to local authorities. Why does the right hon. Gentleman not trust the local authorities to make the right decisions on such vital issues on behalf of their communities? We trust our councillors. Does he not trust his?
