Proceeding contribution from Lord Benyon (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 26 November 2008. It occurred during Emergency debate on Pre-Budget Report.

Pre-Budget Report

The hon. Gentleman will notice that page 200 of the pre-Budget Report contains a line that sounds fairly innocuous:"β€œβ€œThe uncertainty surrounding economic prospects in turn implies greater than usual risks surrounding the public finance projections.””" Does he agree that that is Treasury-speak for a very serious warning about the optimistic forecasts in relation to the length and depth of the recession that the Chancellor made on Monday?
