Proceeding contribution from Richard Taylor (Independent (affiliation)) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 18 March 2009. It occurred during Adjournment debate on NHS Resources.

NHS Resources

My understanding, which is slightly different, is that the Healthcare Commission and the chief medical officer’s working party had actually agreed that venous thromboembolism should be assessed but that the Care Quality Commission did not agree. It told the Health Committee a week or two ago that the Secretary of State, not it, had made the decision, and last week the Health Committee got the Secretary of State to say that he would look into the matter. I hope that the events in Stafford might give an extra push so that the risk assessment, which determines the necessity for treatment, will be done.
