Proceeding contribution from Jack Straw (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 29 June 2009. It occurred during Debate on bill on Parliamentary Standards Bill.

Parliamentary Standards Bill

I have already given way to the hon. Gentleman. Clause 2 provides that IPSA is to take over responsibility for paying the salaries of Members, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the House. It is no part of the scheme—this might be for a future amendment to the Bill—that IPSA should have a role in setting salary levels, which are currently secured by recommendations from the Senior Salaries Review Body and a resolution of this House.
