Finance Bill

My Lords, this House has long respected the rights and privileges of our colleagues in another place in relation to financial matters. As a Bill of aids and supplies, it does not fall to us to debate the detail of individual clauses of the Finance Bill, or to propose amendments to it. But I am sure that your Lordships will all agree that this convention has in no way dampened today’s debate, which has been fascinating, wide ranging, well informed and spirited. I would like to thank all noble Lords who have brought their experience and wisdom to these discussions—particularly the serried ranks of supporters who sit behind me, for whose unreserved support I express my deepest gratitude.
