Proceeding contribution from Andrew Mackinlay (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 13 October 2009. It occurred during Debate on bill on Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill [Lords].
Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill [Lords]
I am grateful to the Minister, but I simply will not let her get away with this nonsense. All that I wish to interest this House of Commons in is giving local authorities an option. Why on earth is the Minister saying "We know best, and you must not—must not—have a committee system"? Where is the logic and fairness in that? As for the arbitrary provision for a population of 85,000, why is 87,000 unacceptable? It is just rubbish.
