Proceeding contribution from Lord Hain (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 14 October 2009. It occurred during Debates on delegated legislation on National Assembly for Wales (Legislative Competence) (Welsh Language).
National Assembly for Wales (Legislative Competence) (Welsh Language)
I hope that that will be a live issue, but the hon. Lady’s party leader has said that if his party is elected to Government he will review the whole question of the defence training academy, because of the party’s planned savage public spending cuts. It may be that the defence training academy could not go ahead if a Tory Government were elected, in which case the issue would be redundant. Supposing, however, that a Labour Government were re-elected and we were considering the issue, any such Minister of the Crown facility or function would be subject to Secretary of State consent. That is already provided for in the draft LCO, and certainly will be in the final version.
