Proceeding contribution from David TC Davies (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 28 October 2009. It occurred during Opposition day on Future of the Territorial Army.

Future of the Territorial Army

The right hon. Gentleman speaks sense on many occasions, and I have no need to elaborate. Will Ministers look into the fact that many members of the Taliban are in this country, claiming asylum and getting houses while British soldiers live in substandard accommodation? I join colleagues who are incredulous that the Government considered making the TA cuts in the first place. I therefore welcome the fact that they have gone into reverse gear, and I hope that the Minister will be able to state that for the little time that he has left in office, he will never, ever again consider cutting funding for the Territorial Army or any other branch of the armed services while we remain at war.
