Proceeding contribution from Lord Hanson of Flint (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 3 February 2010. It occurred during Debate on Police Grant Report.

Police Grant Report

The crime figures which I commented on—not announced—10 days ago were announced by the Office for National Statistics, which is independent of the Government. Indeed, I only see the crime figures as a matter of courtesy a few hours before they are produced, so they are independent. I do not gerrymander them. I take the hon. Gentleman's point about the important population issues, but under any measure crime has fallen across England and Wales over the past 13 years, including in London and key areas as a whole.
