Proceeding contribution from Mike O'Brien (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 9 February 2010. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Out-of-Hours GP Services.

Out-of-Hours GP Services

My hon. Friend is right that there is a difference between the Conservative party and us. As I understand it, the former wants to transfer responsibility to GPs. We take the view, however, that we should not force that responsibility on to GPs, but that they should be more involved in how those services are commissioned. It certainly is the case that, in some areas, out-of-hours mental health provision needs to be looked at with great care, because its quality is crucial, particularly when those with mental health problems have an episode that needs urgent attention.
