Proceeding contribution from Lord Arbuthnot of Edrom (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 7 July 2010. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Afghanistan.
Afghanistan
I welcome my right hon. Friend's statement and particularly what he said about the ratio of troops to local population. General McChrystal instigated a change of policy so that our troops should fire only when they were absolutely sure that Afghan civilians would not be put at risk. Inevitably, that put our troops at a greater degree of risk, but with the longer-term aim of maintaining the support of the local population. Is any change to that policy being considered?
