Proceeding contribution from Tom Harris (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 15 March 2011. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee of the Whole House (HC) on Scotland Bill.
Scotland Bill
I agree with the substance of what the hon. Gentleman is saying about the effects of the cuts to the coastguard system, but would he be proposing this particular change if the cuts to the maritime coastguard service were not being made at the Department for Transport? He is in danger, I think, of opening himself up to accusations of opportunism if this move is a response to budget cuts rather than a point of principle. I am not aware that this point of principle has been raised by the SNP in the past.
