Proceeding contribution from Lord Clarke of Nottingham (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 21 June 2011. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Sentencing Reform/Legal Aid.

Sentencing Reform/Legal Aid

I have very welcome conversations with the victims commissioner from time to time, and very much hope to involve her more closely than has been the case in the development of policy. Obviously, the concerns of victims should be at the heart of all that we do. I was told as I came in that the victims commissioner, Louise Casey, has just issued a statement about our announcements today. It is quite long and I will not read it all. [Hon. Members: ““Go on!””] Well, I will read just the first sentence. She says that she sincerely welcomes"““the government's response to the Green Paper consultation””" announced today. I will try to keep her support because it is extremely important that victims have confidence in what we are doing.
