Proceeding contribution from Baroness Featherstone (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 30 June 2011. It occurred during Debates on delegated legislation on Legislative Reform Order (Epping Forest).
Legislative Reform Order (Epping Forest)
I will come to the consultation in due course, although I would say now that only 31 representations were made throughout the process. The City of London corporation, which is responsible for Wanstead flats, is content with this approach. I should make it clear that the Government accept that there will be some disruption and inconvenience to local people, but are satisfied that this is the best solution to a specific problem, serving the wider public interest. It is also worth pointing out that the Metropolitan police will pay £170,000 in lieu of rent, in addition to the costs of making good the site. That sum will help to create lasting legacy benefits for those who use Epping forest.
