Proceeding contribution from William Cash (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 20 July 2011. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Public Confidence in the Media and Police.
Public Confidence in the Media and Police
Thank you, Mr Speaker. The Prime Minister has referred several times to the future of the regulation of the media, not just the press. About the terms of reference that we have been told about, he says that ββthe inquiry should look not just at the press, but at other media organisations, including broadcasters and social media if there is any evidence that they have been involved in criminal activities.ββ Does that preclude what the 17 Select Committee Chairmen and others have called for, which is an extension of the terms of reference to deal with regulation of all the media, not merely the press alone?
