Proceeding contribution from Sam Gyimah (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 24 October 2011. It occurred during Backbench debate on National Referendum on the European Union.
National Referendum on the European Union
No one can really know what will happen in a referendum. In 1975, the public seemed to be against the EU, but they voted by 2:1 to join. None of us really knows how public opinion will fall in a referendum.
