Proceeding contribution from Cheryl Gillan (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 20 October 2011. It occurred during Grand Committee proceedings (HC) on Work Programme (Wales).

Work Programme (Wales)

It was not a Welsh Grand Committee, no, because I thought it was more urgent than that. It was a special meeting for all Welsh MPs to talk directly to the Minister responsible for that issue. I think it was felt that there was plenty of opportunity during the passage of the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Act 2011 through the House of Commons. Any Member had the opportunity to speak in those debates and indeed I believe that several Members did. So we felt that there were enough forums in which Members could make their views known. However, I again take that point on board. I do not mean to be curmudgeonly about these things. I am trying to ensure that the business of this Committee reflects some of the matters concerning Wales that we need to discuss.
