Proceeding contribution from Rachel Reeves (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 23 January 2012. It occurred during Opposition day on Youth Unemployment and Bank Bonuses.

Youth Unemployment and Bank Bonuses

My hon. Friend speaks passionately about his region in the north-east, and I know he does a huge amount of work for businesses, young people and families in his constituency. The reality is that northern towns and cities are paying a particularly high price for this Government's policies. In my city of Leeds, the local authority is losing more than 25% of its grant over the next four years. As a result, more people are losing their jobs and fewer services can be provided. It is people in the poorest areas who are paying the highest price for this Government's policies.
