Freight: Exhaust Emissions

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assistance the Government provides for freight operators who want to adapt their operations to low emissions restrictions.

Answer: The Government is committed to supporting the rollout of low and ultra low emission alternatives across all vehicle sectors and will invest £500m over the period 2015 to 2020 to support their development, manufacture and use in the UK. A lack of publicly accessible gas refuelling infrastructure has been identified as a significant barrier to the increased uptake of cleaner gas fuelled HGVs and so we have allocated £4m to support the early deployment of gas refuelling stations. This will support freight and logistics operators in their efforts to reduce the environmental impact of their businesses and give freight operators more confidence to invest in this market-ready low emission technology.
