To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 13 January 2015 to Question 220242, what discussions he has had with Northern Rail on the availability of fully trained drivers for the 14 Class 319 electric trains on the Liverpool to Manchester Victoria via Newton-le-Willows route by the time that the refurbished trains are ready for service.

The Class 319 electric trains have been delivered to Northern Rail within the contractual timescales and Northern Rail is currently undertaking driver training and train refurbishment. We will continue to monitor the work Northern are carrying out to ensure that the drivers will be available when the trains enter service.
