Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, with reference to the UN statement of 7 October 2016 calling for the immediate and unconditional release of British Iranian dual nationals, if he will make public representations to the government of Iran calling for that release.

Answer

Ministers and officials regularly make representations to the Iranian Government on all our consular cases. The Prime Minister, my Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Maidenhead (Mrs May) raised our dual national cases with Iranian President Rouhani in person on 20 September, and followed up by letter on 3 October. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip (Mr Johnson) also raised our cases with Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif on 22 September, and followed up by letter on 4 November.
