- Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, if he will outline the process within the NHS for patient referrals to an acupuncturist.
- Answer
-
National Health Service processes to refer patients to an acupuncturist will be determined locally.
It is the responsibility of local NHS organisations to make decisions on the commissioning and funding of any health care treatments for NHS patients, such as acupuncture, taking account of issues to do with safety, clinical and cost-effectiveness and the availability of suitably qualified or regulated practitioners.
