To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, on how many occasions wings of private prisons have been closed as a result of insufficient availability of staff in each of the last five years.

This information is not held centrally and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. We require privately managed prisons to have a sufficient number of staff to maintain a safe and secure prison. We have robust processes in place to closely monitor and manage private providers and will not hesitate to take action when standards fall short.
