NHS: Migrant Workers

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what meetings he has had with the Home Secretary on the ability of foreign nationals from (a) countries in the EU and (b) non-EU countries to move to the UK to work in the NHS; and what the (a) dates and (b) outcomes were of those meetings.

Answer

My Rt. hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, has regular discussions with Ministerial colleagues on a number of issues, including on immigration and the ability of foreign nationals from both European Union and non-EU countries to work in the National Health Service.

The Government values highly the enormous contribution of all those working across our health and care sector from across the EU and the rest of the world. This is why the Home Secretary recently removed doctors and nurses from the ambit of the Tier 2 visa cap, and why many NHS staff will have early access to the settled status scheme for EU nationals.
