Buildings: Carbon Emissions

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what estimate he has made of the level of carbon emissions in tonnes from central or standalone (a) heating in winter and (b) cooling in summer from buildings for which he is responsible that rely solely on natural ventilation.

Answer: Most buildings in the UK rely solely on natural ventilation. Carbon emissions from heating and cooling is included in the UK greenhouse gas emissions national statistics: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/provisional-uk-greenhouse-gas-emissions-national-statistics-2021. The Government recently published a study on demand for cooling in UK buildings which is available at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cooling-in-the-uk.
