To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many apprenticeship placements there were in SMEs in the (a) 2017-2018, (b) 2018-19, (c) 2019-20, (d) 2020-21, (e) 2021-22 and (f) 2022-23 academic year.

The most recent statistics on apprenticeship starts by enterprise size cover the 2012/13 to 2020/21 academic years, and are published on Explore Education Statistics at: https://explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics/apprenticeships-in-england-by-industry-characteristics.
Data for 2021/22 and 2022/23 will be published in June 2024 and June 2025, respectively.
