Royal Hospital School

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the Answer of 16 October 2023 to Question 199706 on Navy: Greenwich Hospital, whether he holds Ministerial responsibility for (a) safeguarding and (b) other matters relating to the provision of education at the Royal Hospital School.

Answer: The Secretary of State for Defence is responsible for safeguarding and other matters relating to the provision of education at the Royal Hospital School. He does not act in his capacity as Secretary of State, or for the benefit of the Ministry of Defence or His Majesty’s Government, but as a representative of the Crown for the charitable purposes of Greenwich Hospital, including the Royal Hospital School. The Secretary of State is accountable to Parliament for these matters.
