Espionage: China
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the potential national security implications of the convictions and sentencing of Bill Yuen and Peter Wai.
- Answer
-
Upholding national security and keeping the public safe is the first duty of Government.
This case proves the strength of the powers we have to protect us from hostile activity carried out by foreign states and the convictions should send a clear message – there will be serious consequences for anyone who seeks to undermine our security.
The Government, working alongside operational partners, keeps potential threats to the UK and its residents under constant review and, where necessary, we use all the tools at our disposal to mitigate these.
