Guided Weapons: Procurement

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to page 6 of the Strategic Defence Review, published on 2 June 2025, whether all of the new long-range weapons will be delivered in the current Parliament.

Answer

As a former Defence Minister, I am certain the hon. Member will recall it is not MOD policy to comment on the exact numbers of weapons procured, as disclosure of such detail could undermine operational security. The Defence Investment Plan funds a weapons programme that represents a substantial and sustained investment in the UK’s defence capability.

This will include significant numbers of both novel and existing/low and high-cost long-range weapons systems, spanning all domains and target sets. These capabilities will be sourced not only from UK industry – supporting domestic innovation and industrial resilience – but also through close collaboration with trusted allies, including partners in the United States and across Europe. This balanced approach ensures that the UK maintains access to cutting-edge technology while reinforcing interoperability and collective security with key international partners.
