Written question asked by Ayoub Khan (Independent (affiliation)) on Friday, 26 June 2026, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. It was answered by Kate Dearden (Labour) on Monday, 6 July 2026 on behalf of the Department for Business and Trade.

Funerals

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, what assessment his Department has made of the adequacy of the fulfilment of consumer requirements in the (a) funeral, (b) cremation and (c) burial services sectors.

Answer

The Department for Business and Trade has not undertaken a separate assessment of consumer requirements in the funeral, cremation and burial services sectors. The Competition and Markets Authority's funerals market investigation identified concerns about consumer outcomes in funeral markets and introduced the Funerals Market Investigation Order 2021 to improve transparency and support informed consumer choice.
