M5: Accidents
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment her Department has made of the potential for the proposed M5 Junction 9 and A46 (Ashchurch) Transport Scheme to mitigate collisions on the M5.
- Answer
-
Gloucestershire County Council’s proposals for this scheme have focused on developing a relief road to mitigate increased traffic from the planned Tewkesbury Garden Community and to offer relief to Junction 9 of the M5. The traffic modelling for the proposals, which has been assessed by National Highways, suggests that they would deliver a reduction in waiting times on the junction and shorter queue lengths, which could help mitigate collisions. The scheme is currently part of the Major Road Network and Large Local Majors programme, but is under review to determine its affordability. The Department will confirm a decision on future funding later in due course.
