Military Alliances

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to page 73 of his Department's Strategic Defence Review, published on 2 June 2025, what progress his Department has made on bolstering collective security by actively investing in alliances and partnerships.

Answer

Since the publication of the Strategic Defence Review the Ministry of Defence is continuing to invest in alliances and partnerships. We are working with Allies to deliver a stronger Europe in a stronger NATO as European Allies take greater responsibility for collective security, reinforcing NATO’s deterrence and defence against threats to the Euro-Atlantic area. UK leadership of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) is strengthening collective security across the High North, North Atlantic, and Baltic Sea regions, as we work in tandem with JEF Partner Nations. Additionally, the department published the UK’s Defence Diplomacy Strategy in March which sets out how Defence will prioritise investing in alliances and partnerships and is now implementing this approach.
