- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what steps his Department is taking to ensure UK Embassies support UK-based charities working overseas.
- Answer
-
Our embassies work with a wide range of local and international Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), including UK based International NGOs (INGOs). UK INGOs are a unique link between the UK public and communities abroad. While we are committed to increasing local leadership and delivery, UK INGOs remain crucial partners for many British Embassies and High Commissions due to their expertise, scale, and access. In times of distress, our Embassies and High Commissions provide consular assistance and advice to UK nationals including those working in INGOs. We also provide support and guidance to UK embassies on working with NGOs including through our new Politics, Governance and Rights Community of Expertise.
